Google Analytics

Google Analytics

I was given my first assignment about Google Analytics a week ago at Blubrry. My boss asked me if I knew how to use it and I said “No, but I can learn!” Doing is how I learn best, so I was all for stumbling around if it meant I would lean something. I also jumped at the opportunity because gaining this skill sets me apart from other applicants when I apply for future marketing jobs.

When I first looked at the Google Analytics home page in , I was overwhelmed. There is a lot of information in small fonts with a ton of tabs to choose from. It is a daunting page! Do not worry though, I have some tips for you that can help you get started.

  1. Complete the Google Analytics Academy
    • Google Analytics Academy offers free, online courses on analytics and other data analysis tools. It’s invaluable if you want to learn Google Analytics in a timely manor, especially if you do not have a mentor to show you Google Analytics step by step. They have seven free courses to choose from: Google Analytics for Beginners, Advanced Google Analytics, Google Analytics Power Users, Getting Started with Google Analytics 360, Introduction to Data Studio, and Google Tag Manager Foundations. I have not finished all of them yet, but I already feel worlds better than I did before. The curses teach using short length videos and provide transcript of the video if you are not a visual learner.
  2. Take detailed notes
    • If your company wants you to do one Google Analytics assignment, then they will want you to do more. Document every important point that you can when you first take the courses so you can save yourself time on when you have questions on your next project. Doing this has already come in handy for me.
  3. Take notes with both the video and the transcript open
    • It will make taking notes go faster because you can copy and past right from the transcript.
  4. Get the Snipping Tool
    • The snipping tool is my best friend when it comes to taking digital notes. It allows you to screenshot whatever you want on a page, and paste it wherever you need. You can even write on it if you want. I recommend this app to everyone, Google Analytics Academy or not.

Morning Routine

The Billion Dollar Morning Routine

Creating routines is hard work but keeping up with routines is even harder!  Why are morning routines important for productivity? What should be included in a morning routine? Are cold showers really that bad? In this episode of Internal Affairs, I talk about all these topics and argue why it is important for everyone to give the One Billion Dollar Morning Routine a try. Essentially, the One Billion Dollar Routine appear as overkill, but it produces some useful insights that last a lifetime!

I have returned!! After a small hiatus due to a throat bug, I am BACK! I hope you enjoy this episode and I really hope that you try out this routine. I know it may seem daunting, but it forces a mindset that is beneficial when working a lot. When I did this routine every day, I was in the trenches mentally… it was summer, I was working at Target in Cincinnati, and had just broken up with my x-partner. When we are at our lowest, we often fall back onto our habits. I decided back then to create habits that would serve me and that is what this routine gave me. This routine really helped keep my mental health up when I needed it most and I hope that if you are ever in a state of mind like I was, you are able to find comfort.

Instagram Stories

Why Instagram stories matter:

  • Instagram stories are an easy, free way to try out different marketing techniques. You can tag locations and people to encourage exposure to your profile. Today I explore the flexibility and usefulness of Instagram stories and how they can really improve your presence on social media. I take a deep dive into Amazons Instagram stories to get a perspective on how the top marketing executives are using Instagram stories. Do not be afraid of trying different things with Instagram stories. If you do not like your result, just try another approach! You go this.
  • Then I delve into my resolutions for 2022 and what I have learned about the difficulties of creating habits. Of course, I mention my favorite podcast, Hidden Brain again. Which helps up identify what steps can be taken to develop good habits that we can actually stick to.

Update:

  • Chau and I have decided to not co-host Internal Affairs together. Instead, it will be fully taken over by me, Mandy Moore. I hope you enjoy the coming episodes! This episode is a new dynamic than what I usually put up, so I really hope you like it.

Interning in New York

If you are interested in interning in New York, New York, then this is the podcast for you. In this episode, Chau and I interview An, an architect major at the University of Cincinnati. An is interning this semester at Perkins Eastman in New York. She takes us through all the ups and downs she has gone through to get to where she is. From the process of sending in over 100 applications, the importance of having a portfolio, the difficulty in finding housing short notice, and more.

Some key tips to take away if you want to find an internship away from your location:

  1. Apply to as many as possible
    • You can always say no to an internship or job after it is offered to you, so if you have any inkling that you may like to work somewhere, apply for it! you never know what opportunities will come your way if you don’t go for them!! Use sites like Handshake and LinkedIn to apply, you can also ask your Career Coach for some guidance on which sites are best for you
  2. Have a portfolio that is personal to you:
  3. Once you get it, find good housing quickly:
    • An stayed in a hotel for a while before finding a permanent residence. When she finally did find her apartment, she found it on June Homes (not sponsored). June Homes is convenient because they find housing specifically for short term leasing. Depending on where you go, the housing market can move quickly. So, when you find a house that fits your criteria, act fast.

Ep 2: Navigating Social Media

Social media can be overwhelming, we would know. Chau and I interact with social media every day as marketing interns. We use Canva to create infographics and are improving our techniques as we go. In this week’s episode, we talk about our first impressions of Canva, what we have learned, and where we want to improve. Everything has a learning curve to it, including navigating social media on a professional platform, do not be afraid to make some mistakes along the way (they are half the fun!). Think of creating content like creating a podcast, the hardest part is starting!

Essential Tips for Creating Infographics on Canva

  • Make a color template guideline for your company’s social media. Using Excel or Google Sheets, copy the names of your color palate into a column. use the fill tool to make the adjacent cell an example of the colors within the palate

Ep 1: Stretch or Stress?

How are you? Like…how are you really? If you are like Mandy and Chau who are juggling several tasks like essays, exams prep, team projects, co-op and even a case competition in the weekend, you might feel a lot of stress as we approach the end of the semester. That’s not to mention having neck pain, hip pain, maintaining relationships with loved ones, and having a social life out of work and school. Ughh, if only we could have a clone or have extra 5 hours in a day, life would be a little bit easier for us to just BREATHE, right?. But that’s ok, because we are warriors and we will tackle these last few weeks of the school year like bosses!

We talk about mindfulness and meditation as well as the things that we do we keep ourselves sane these days to get that ‘work-life balance’:

  • dealing with anxiety, depression, doubts and triggers
  • breathing and meditation technique
  • mental health, physical health and self-regulation zones checkin
  • resources to support ourselves during tough time. Super helpful and genuine stuff that we think you can relate!
